In 2008 a parent suggested that he could help to create a small garden within our grounds in which the children could learn to grow food, and to become more aware of how the environment affects our eating habits.
As the year wore on more and more individuals and agencies became interested, involved and excited about this idea and the plan is now to have a community garden developed in which the children and their families can work together.
We are privileged to be one of only eight schools in Northumberland to have been chosen to take part in the National School Food Trust- Million Meals Campaign.
The aim of the campaign is to ensure that more children and young people have access to a nutritious and balanced meal.
At Hexham East we know that eating well is important for our health and wellbeing and we take seriously the part we can play in ensuring that our children leave us knowing how to choose healthy food.
